Tying for FUTASUJI

This is my first try for FUTASUJI crippled dun. Hook size is #10!

Maybe golden wire should be added to its body.

They, big parachutes, are also tied as FUTASUJI's spinner. I found this pattern on the web though, they are far from original...

Anyway, I'm ready for FUTASUJI' hatch now.

FUTASUJI ; 8th trip to OSHINO

Today's my departure time was around one o'clock, so starting time was around three.

Which meant that I could expect terrestrial game today. But they just sniffed it, not easy...

I was surprised by the number of FUTASUJI MONKAGEROU mayfly's spinner. I thought its dun's color was better than spinner as my preference.

This is KUSIGE MADARA's spinner. Its size was close to #20.

Mahogany thorax dun #18 gave me first luck as an imitation of KUSHIGE.

Several fishes was hooked by rusty spinner pattern after that.

I agree that KUSHGE was dominate late evening, but FUTASUJI's intermittent hatch was stood out. I might need to tie FUTASUJI's pattern.

Match the F's hatch; 9th trip to OSHINO

Since I had to change fly line to new one, renewed the reel also.

I liked it, design and functionality, everything was fine!!

As a terrestrial pattern, royal wolf was today's best bet. I hooked some, but couldn't catch them.

I could see some FUTASUJI's hatch today also. So I changed my fly to its imitation without hesitation.
My FUTASUJI crippled dun worked well!!

See his one in stomach. He seemed to like FUTASUJI.

Every time I came here recently, I saw this beautiful misty scene almost same time in a day.

This evening I decided to ignore KUSHIGE, major hatch, and use same pattern. It gave me a lot of strike.
Though I could catch only three more fishes because of mis-hooking or something, I was so happy to see good reaction for my FUTASUJI's pattern.

My new OSHINO records; 4th trip to OSHINO

I could come to OSHINO again today!

Needless to say, today's theme was 'enjoy terrestrial big form fly fishing'.

1st one, good start.

2nd one was brown trout which wore well-balanced color.

'Shade' and 'Tight to the bank ' are important key words for terrestrial game.

Good YAMAME by CDC stonefly.

Move to FUJIKYU hole.

4th was superb brownie by yellow form beetle.

Effect of 'Match the Hatch'? (Bee including hornet is pronouced like 'hatch' in Japanese. Just jesting, sorry.)

Move to ONSEN-URA hole.

6th one was also good brown by white marabou(LTM).

I did check his stomach because I couldn't identify what he was feeding this time.
Looks like one of small caddis species. Need to be identified....

I could succeed in hooking this big boy by sigh nymphing using huge stonefly nymph pattern!

He was not under best condition though, his size was my OSHINO record, 54cm(21inches).

10th one was brown again and again and... by FUTASUJI's crippled dun.
He was so wild! I liked it very much, perfect condition!!

Long-horned beetle on the flower of SHISHI-UDO.

Move to downstream of S turns hole.

11th one was also well conditioned bow by olive body parachute#20.

Stonefly's shuck , Baetis' nymph and one of MADARA mayfly's dun were in his stomach.

I decided to enjoy evening fishing at upper stream section today.

After added 3 rain bows by midge adult and FUTASUJI's crippled dun pattern, last 15th one was this IWANA trout.
I don't think much of the number I caught usually, but today was different, a kind of special day.
In the end I caught 8 bows, 4 browns, 1 YAMAME and 2 IWANA. 15 was my new OSHINO record. And 4 species was also new.
Today was too good for me. The goddess of fishing must have smiled on me.

OSHINO was tough

for me today. Got there before 11AM, lazy Lance...
I thought "terrestrial close the bank" was enough daytime, but it was not so easy today. I could set a hook several times though, couldn't catch any by terrestrial pattern because of shot bite.

My second strategy, FUTASUJI's pattern was not good also. Could catch some, but reaction for it was slower than usual year. Watanabe-san told me later that its hatch peak was two weeks ago... So I couldn't know new fly pattern's effect today.

KAWARAHIWA, Oriental Greenfinch was just taking off after a water bath.

Nice brown ignored my dry fly completely at OSHINO_ENTEI(lowest section). It was my first visit to this hole.

14:13 my late first fish there by FUTASUJI's pattern.
Since it was just reaction bite, I checked its inside of stomach.

YUSURIKA(midge)'s pupa was dominant and some scud. What a poor hatch there is! I didn't want to do midge game today.

15:30
Moved to S-Bend hole. Small white KOKAGE(SAHO?) was seen there. And AKAMADARA mayfly was seen also.

#18 PMD last chance crippled dun worked well there. Got three tiny bows.
This is one of their stomach, nymphs(maybe floating?) of KOKAGE and MADARA were there.

17:50 moved to KINDAICHI hole and got two by same crippled one.
Late evening, I was struggling with KUSHGE_MADARA. There were so many rises in the dark, but I couldn't do anything...
Lance, you should be there again soon, shouldn't you?

Still like summer ;12th trip to OSHINO

Today It had been raining until around 3 o'clock. Weather forecast said that it would be stopped around noon...

During rainy afternoon, huge terrestrial fly still worked even early autumn now.

One of today's topics was that I could see some big fish more often than usual. I aimed one of them and tried any pattern which I hit on, but couldn't attract him...

I saw this FUTASUJI's dun so often. Today's hit fly was its crippled dun again. I thought I would like to try tying another pattern of it.

There were a few rises in a day time.

This is first bow's stomach sample. Nymphs were dominant.

I found this ONASHI stonefly's adult when I was releasing the first fish. His wing was not complete as this pic, a kind of unusual.

This one was caught at new hole to me.
In the evening, the number of rise itself was increased because of KUSHIGE mayfly's hatch. But I ignored it and kept using FUTASUJI's fly mainly.

Late evening, several HIGENAGA were shown. So I changed the fly to HIGENAGA's one. Though I got several strikes, couldn't catch them...

It might be a kind of stressful result today. There was only one more week to close. I wish I would have a chance to be there one more time...

OSHINO after 5

Our company got started 'Summer Time Shift' from 4th of July, no overtime work. So we are free just after 5. Personally speaking, would like to be free from 3 or 4 something though, it may be good opportunity for poor fly fisherman. Gone for OSHINO with Tommy and Y-kun.
18:20 Started to fish

18:40 first fish by FUTASUJI crippled dun, after two big mistakes...

There were many rises, should be nice situation for us.
Very small mayfly(KUSHIGE?) was mainly seen and some FUTASUJI's hatch.

19:05  2nd one was also YAMAME, good size by KUSHIGE para

19:20  Last fish today by same small parachute.
After this fish, there were many crazy rises in very short time there. I couldn't got them...  Need to go there again soon to identify them.
